The former Super Eagles captain and coach is set to join Dutch second division club Fortuna Sittard and become one of the few African coaches plying their trades in Europe.
Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Sunday Oliseh has landed a job with Dutch second division club Fortuna Sittard. Fortuna Sittard said on its website that Oliseh, who walked away from the Super Eagles coaching job last year, has signed a contract that will run for 18 months, with the option of him extending it for another year.
He will take charge of training at Fortuna Sittard for the first time on 2 January.
The club’s Turkish owner, Isitan Gün, said he was ‘very happy’ to announce Oliseh’s arrival.
“With Sunday Oliseh we signed a young and ambitious coach with vision, one players look up to,” Gün said. “We were looking for someone who plays attractive football combining it with the will to win. We think Sunday is the right one for this job,” Gun added.
Oliseh played for Ajax Amsterdam between 1997-1999. He also played for other big clubs like Juventus and Borussia Dortmund during his club career. Oliseh who played 63 times with the Super Eagles won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations and Olympic gold in 1996.
His tenure as Super Eagles coach ended abruptly after he resigned, He had rows with players like Vincent Enyeama, Emmanuel Emenike and also Nigeria Football Federation members.
Dutch club Fortuna Sittard have hired former Nigeria captain and coach Sunday Oliseh as their new manager.
Oliseh, 42, stepped down as Super Eagles boss in February following claims of unpaid wages.
He now takes over the second-tier club in a return to the Netherlands, where he previously played for Ajax from 1997 to 1999.
Fortuna Sittard said Oliseh had signed an 18-month contract.

Oliseh’s first game in charge will be Jan. 13 against bottom side Achilles ’29.
