English Premier League (EPL) side, West Ham United, have paid a club record £20m ($26m) to sign Ghana international, Andre Dede Ayew from Swansea City.
Ayew, deputy skipper of Ghana’s senior national team, attracted interest from West Ham last summer, but joined the Swans on a free transfer from French giants Olympique Marseille. He went on to score 12 goals during his debut season in the Premier League.
Earlier reports indicated that Swansea were holding on to the 26-year old as they looked to secure attacking reinforcements before sanctioning his move away from the Liberty Stadium.
The club recently announced the signing of Sevilla forward Fernando Llorente, which effectively paved the way for Ayew’s move. The player shared a collage on Twitter showing him signing the deal in the presence of his dad and West Ham officials.
Ayew’s contract with the Swans had three more years to run but he was allowed to leave the club he joined only a season ago. He is the second senior forward to leave Swansea after the departure of Bafetimbi Gomis who joined Marseille on a season-long loan.
West Ham manager, Slaven Bilic, had been looking to strengthen his forward options ahead of the new season especially as he prepares for life without Diafra Sakho left the club for West Bromwich Albion.
