Schools in the country will reintroduce the teaching of history as a subject, Executive Secretary, Nigeria Educational Research Development Council (NERDC) Prof. Ismail Junaidu has said.

He said the subject would be taught in primary and secondary schools in the country.

Junaidu made the remark while briefing journalists at a flag-off ceremony for the Dis-articulation of History from Social Studies curriculum, held at the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) in Abuja yesterday.

According to him, the council has prepared to ensure the success of implementation of the program saying “by next academic session we should start implementing it.”

He said that Federal Ministry of Education and the National Assembly were behind the council.

He said that the decision to disarticulate the History contents from the social studies curriculum was in line with the curriculum best practice.
