The American actor wanted to meet Jamel Khashoggi’s Turkish fiancee, Hatice Cengiz, during his visit.

Since Khashoggi was a known critic of Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. All indications point to Prince Mohammed bin Salman as being directly responsible for ordering his assassination at the Saudi’s consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.

Despite repeated denial by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s reputation has been tarnished, with U.S senators pointing the finger at Prince Mohammed bin Salman, following the CIA briefing on December 4, 2018.

The remains of the 59-year-old Khashoggi have not yet been found despite searches of the consulate and other places.

Sean Penn was also seen outside the consul general’s nearby residence.

Sean Penn previously attracted controversy from his prior documentary with Mexican-American actress Kate del Castillo, which featured an interview with Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman while he was on the run.

Penn, aged 58, won two Oscar awards for best actor for his roles in Mystic River and in Milk.
