The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has reportedly arrested a cousin to former Petroleum Resources Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, in connection to oil fraud.

According to Premium Times, the accused Donald Chidi Amamgbo, was picked up by the anti-graft agency today, February 25, at about 4.20pm.
Amamgbo, who owns Mezcor Oil and Gas limited, Tridax Oil and Gas Limited, Lynear Energy Limited and Bulk Strategic Reserved Limited, is believed to have fronted for Alison-Madueke, to lift Nigerian crude oil without any requisite experience.

The former minister allegedly granted Amamgbo approval to lift oil severally.
“Through his companies, Amamgbo lifted crude oil and gas worth billions of dollars over a period of four years,” investigators told Premium Times.

“A search conducted in the office and premises of Mezcor Oil and Gas Limited at No. 5 Sannar street, Wuse 2, Abuja yielded documents which included payments for the purchase of houses and vehicles,” the source said.
The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, somewhat confirmed the development but did not give further details, the online news portal reports.

“I am told there is something like that but I don’t have the details,”Uwujaren said.
On February 18, the EFCC had arrested the ex-minister’s husband, Mr. Alison Amaechina Madueke, for allegedly laundering over $600,000 through his personal accounts.

He was later released on administrative bail.
Mrs. Alison-Madueke was appointed Nigeria’s first female petroleum minister in February 2010, which was after former vice president Goodluck Jonathan became acting president, a position she held till May 29, 2015 when Jonathan left office.

The tenure of the former minister, who is currently battling cancer in the United Kingdom, was characterized with controversies bordering on various corrupt activities.
