Senator Saraki made this known when he hosted a delegation of Conference of Nigeria Female Parliamentarians (CONFEPA) at the National Assembly Complex on Wednesday.
Senator Saraki noted that the male politicians “were not doing enough in the inclusion of women in polices implementation and governance, assuring the women that the tide would change in 2019. “We must change and turn the tide. We cannot continue with this low level of women participation. We must do something about it,” he said.
The president of the Senate further called for all hands to be on deck to make 2019 general election a difference. He commended their efforts as female parliamentarians, describing them as “shining stars” to the present and future generation.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Hon. Elizabeth Uyinmwen Ativie, decried the low level of women participation in the nation’s governance since 1999, in terms of both elective and appointive offices.
Ativie, who is the member representing Uhunmwode Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, however, commended the President of the Senate for influencing the nomination and election of five women into the Kwara State House of Assembly during the 2015 general elections.
