Adeoluwa said this measure became necessary because the gridlock had led to an increase in cases of armed robbery along the road.
He stated that in the past few weeks, there had been increased security patrols on road, adding that the state government had begun discussion with the Federal Controller of Works, Ogun State and the contractor.
The statement read in part, “We recall that before the advent of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun administration, armed robbery usually occurred on the road because of its bad state. Also, gridlock caused by unruly drivers and trailers parked indiscriminately on the median, were the order of the day.
“The public will recall that we confronted these challenges by setting up a task force to checkmate the excesses of trailer drivers, with the state governor leading the enforcement team. We also invested heavily on redesigning the security architecture of the state by deploying Armoured Personnel Carriers, Quick Response Squad, Operation MESA and the state Traffic Enforcement and Compliance Agency.”
Adeoluwa said the objective of the new directive was to reduce the man-hour lost as well as the socio-economic disruptions occasioned by the ongoing road repair.
