India invests $75m in Nigeria’s solar energy project

In an effort to continue strengthening its economic bilateral relation with Nigeria, India has offered Seventy Five Million US Dollars to Nigeria for solar energy project,.

The Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Abhay Thakur, stated this, during an event organised by the Indian High Commission to mark Seventy Years Anniversary of Indian Independence, held in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

After the Founding conference of the International Solar Alliance held in New Delhi, India offered another Seventy Five million US Dollar for solar projects in Nigeria”. Mr. Abhay Thakur said

Mr. Thakur added that, India will continue to encourage investors to invest in Nigeria not only in infrastructure but also in education, health, and agriculture and air services sector.

Following the signing of the bilateral air service agreement this month, we are encouraging our airlines to start the much awaited direct flight between India and Nigeria”. The High Commissioner explained

India looks forward to boost India Nigeria bilateral relation of Twelve billion US Dollar and Indian investment of Ten billion US Dollar and the concluding the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding MOU on mutual assistance in customs,” he said

The envoy, urged Nigeria and India to do more to expand their economic horizon for the benefit of both countries.

“We now need to move to the next level of our economic collaboration, through enhanced connectivity, large projects and greater flow of tourism,” he emphasized.

On his part, Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, who was represented by the Director Asia-Pacific Division, from the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nura Abba Rimi, commended the bilateral relationship that exists between Nigeria and India in different areas of human development.

India got its independence from Britain on 15th August 1947.
